Montmorency (モンモランシ Monmoranshi?) is one of the main characters of the Ulysses: Jeanne d'Arc to Renkin no Kishi light novel and protagonists of the anime series. He is the son of a great aristocrat of the Kingdom of France.
Montmonrency is a young man dressed in black clothing.
He was in Royal Knight training school and was classmates with Arthur de Richemont, Charlotte de Valois and Philip, he shows interest in alchemy and magic rather than battle, leaving the lowest record since its establishment. As a black magician, he was wanted all over France, while fleeing with Astaroth, he met Jeanne in Don Lemi village.
At the knight training school, He came out to fight Azanque, but he could not do anything, then met Astaroth when mourning his helplessness, and he learned the truth of the Philosophers' stone.
The innocent girl Montmorency saved from dying by making her into a Ulysses in Domremy. As the series progressed along the love between them grew.
The immortal Queen of the Fairies and the guardian of the Philosopher's Stone, called in the human world by Montmorency to help him become a Ulysses. She loves to provoke Montmorency and scold him for his lack of experience.
Richemont is Montmorency's childhood friend and secret love since they studied at the Knights Academy.
Charlotte is Montmorency's 2nd childhood friend at the Knights Academy and heir to the French throne.
Younger brother of Richemont's and also childhood friend of Montmorency. Like Montrency and Richemont he also studied at the Knights Academy possibly one year junior to them.
The commander of a mercenary unit sent by Charlotte to protect Domremy and the rest of Lorraine. She become infatuated with Jeanne and Astaroth since the moment she saw them but now ever since becoming a Ulysses she also seems to be drawn to Montmorency.
Philip is the heir of the Burgundy household, she's one of Richemont's childhood friends along with Montmorency and also a rival for Montmorency affection.
Catherine is the cousin and fiance of Montmorency arranged by his grandfather. From childhood she has always loved Montmorency and due to circumstances she is now officially his wife.
- Montmorency is partially based on the French historical figure, Gilles de Rais who was burnt at the stake by the Inquisition after he was tortured and made to confess.
- His name is derived from the city of Montmorency, now in the Val-d'Oise département, in the immediate neighborhood of Enghien-les-Bains and Saint-Denis, about 15 km (9 mi) northwest of Paris.
